preserving with The Fusilli Farmstead

$24 for 3 months

On a road trip in November of 2021, we came to stop at a food truck at the edge of town. The owner, Angelo, insisted that while we were there that we postpone our other plans and visit the Fusilli Farmstead just up the road…

The grandmother of the group, Nonna Nags as everyone calls her, is a powerful force of nature, commanding the cellar and orchestrating the farmstead’s year round food supplies while also holding head of court of the latest garden gossip and offering counsel to anyone who honestly asks, as I graciously found out…

We’ve kept in touch ever since and last Spring I received an incredible gift from her. She sent dozens of recipes for preserving fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses with tried and true techniques as well as recipes for meals, pastries and snacks from their farmstead. The granddaughters at the farmstead, Solbina and Nettie, have brought these recipes online and are now sharing them on their YouTube channel along with other farmer’s processes and recipes.

We have made this member area to share their recipes and I have also put together recipes and instructions for our house favorites here at Turtle Rock Farm including each of our 2 Good Food Award winners from 2014 and 2021. There are over 60 recipes here and they are tried, true and tested for preserving and building a Resilient Larder, as the Fusilli’s call it.

Spend more time with the Fusilli’s at the Natura Vitae YouTube channel for music, cellar stories, garden gossip and seasonal recipes.

You Bet you Can!

If you have never canned or preserved your food before, these recipes are great to start worth. Getting to know foods through preserving and peak seasonality doesn’t just help develop knife skills and kitchen organization though it undoubtedly does. but also helps to develop your experience, knowledge and relationship with particular fruits, vegetables, meat or dairy products in a different way than making it for an entree, even if it is your favorite repeat. Nonna and I both believe home is where the hearth is and that can be an apartment, single family home, the back of your van, the rental kitchen in your AirBnb, your cabin in the woods, farmhouse, townhome or tent. Wherever you are and however long you are there, practicing simple skills based in seasonal living opens you up to navigate the wild and wonderful variety of our modern gardens and grocers.
